We help communities, public agencies and civic organizations to accelerate their efforts for reduced environmental footprint and greater economic prosperity, by forming and supporting coalitions with training, technical assistance, and ongoing, flexible assistance.  We design our projects to inspire commitment and creativity by identifying “stretch” goals and creating strategies to achieve them.   In keeping with our belief that people-power is the under-utilized secret ingredient in sustainable development, we focus less on policy and more on action-oriented education, events and projects that demonstrate new possibilities.

Last year we helped bring the Mid-Hudson Regional Sustainability Plan to life. In 2014, our work focuses on lively local action and regional coordination, including:

  • Solarize, a campaign to make it easier and more affordable for homes to go solar;
  • Innovation Districts, revitalizing commercial districts with energy and sustainability innovations;
  • Working paper series on implementing the Mid-Hudson Regional Sustainability Plan;
  • Annual conference, harvest dinner and awards ceremony.

Today, when everybody seems to be working on aspects of sustainability, our role is increasingly to support, coordinate and empower local efforts. Our goal this year is to develop new funding resources for a service corps, combining recent graduates and recent retirees, who can work with local sustainability efforts and gain important skills.
